Upper Chewaucan Marsh and the surrounding basin dominate this portion of Lake County, where the desert landscape meets complex water management systems. The hydrology of the area is defined by a network of man-made and natural features, including Outside Canal, Moss Ditch, and the Lower Marsh Canal, which channel water across the flats toward The Narrows. This bottleneck in the terrain is marked by The Narrows Bridge, carrying the Fremont Hwy across the marshland. To the south, the terrain rises sharply at Tucker Hill, a prominent elevation overlooking the valley floor.
