The Diablo Range defines the high relief of this landscape, where the Panoche Hills and Tumey Hills meet the western edge of the Central Valley. This 2021 survey traces the complex drainage patterns of Panoche Cr and Silver Cr as they cut through the arid terrain of San Benito and Fresno counties. The map documents the boundary between these counties as it traverses the Griswold Hills and Ciervo Hills. Modern land management is reflected in the detailed section lines of T15S and T16S, while Panoche Rd remains the primary transit corridor through the hills. The transition from the steep elevation of Right Angle Canyon to the floor of the San Joaquin Valley illustrates the geomorphology typical of the California Coast Ranges.
