Green River flows through the western edge of this landscape, carving a path through Gray Canyon and into the Green River Valley. The geography is defined by the dramatic ascent from the riverbanks toward the towering Book Cliffs and Suluar Mesa. This area is characterized by a complex network of drainages and seasonal watercourses, most notably Tusher Canyon and its tributaries, Left Hand Tusher Canyon and Right Hand Tusher Canyon. These canyons cut deep into the arid plateaus, revealing the stark geological layers of the region. Distinctive landmarks such as Gunnison Butte and Willow Bend serve as navigational anchors along the water's edge. Further east, the terrain opens into the Mancos Desert W, where features like Coal Canyon and the Coal Canyon Bench illustrate the transition from riverine valley to high desert benchland.
