Twentytwo Spring and its namesake Twentytwo Draw lie at the heart of this high-desert landscape along the boundary of Cibola and Catron counties. This 2017 survey reveals a remote terrain defined by its water management, where numerous man-made features like Big Sand Tank, Little Sand Tank, and Horse Canyon Tank dot the canyons to capture seasonal runoff. The topography is carved by significant drainage systems, including Blanco Canyon in the north and the winding Red Flat Wash to the east. Transportation through this arid expanse is limited to rugged routes such as Catron Co Rd A009 and Catron Co Rd A001, illustrating the sparse settlement patterns of this section of New Mexico.
