The Marys River valley defines this high-desert landscape in Elko County, winding south past Skinners Point and through a series of expansive alluvial basins. The prominent geological profile of the Twin Buttes rises near the center of the sheet, providing a primary landmark above the surrounding creek networks. This 2014 survey documents a region defined by water management and transit, where several perennial sources like Hot Springs Cr and Pole Cr feed into the main river channel. Smaller seasonal drainage systems including Gopher Cr and Yellow Rock Cr etch the western slopes of the valley.
