About this map

The Fort Hood Military Reservation dominates the eastern half of this 1947 landscape, its Reservation Boundary slicing through the central hills and defining the limits of civilian activity. To the south, Copperas Cove is shown as it appeared in the late 1940s, situated along the tracks of the Gulf Colorado and Santa Fe railroad. The terrain is marked by a series of prominent peaks and gaps, including Twin Mountains, Anderson Mountain, and the strategically located Beecham Gap.
