The Salmon River carves a dramatic path through the southern portion of the quadrangle, designated here as the Salmon Wild and Scenic River. This area is characterized by steep elevation changes, ranging from the banks of the river up to prominent summits like Ulysses Mountain, which is topped with a Lookout Tower, and Indian Peak.

Evidence of historical land use and recreation is scattered throughout the drainages. Numerous seasonal springs such as Whisky Spring, Deadwater Spring, and Grindstone Spring provide water in the high country. Access is limited primarily to 4WD tracks and trails through features like Donnelly Gulch, Buster Gulch, and Beartrap Gulch. The Deadwater Picnic Area along the river serves as a rare developed point of interest in this otherwise primitive mountain environment.
