The Sheyenne River meanders across the western edge of this North Dakota prairie landscape, defining the topography near Heaton Bridge. The small settlement of Venlo sits along the tracks of the Soo Line railroad, which cuts diagonally through the northern townships of Shenford and Owego. The eastern portion of the sheet is dominated by the distinct hummocky terrain of Sandoun, a contrast to the flatter agricultural grids of Scoville.

Hydrological features are particularly prominent, including multiple Flowing Wells and a Flowing Well scattered across the southern and central sections. At the northern bend of the river, Pigeon Point marks a sharp transition in the river's course.
