Vermilion Point serves as the focal point of this coastal survey, where the southern reaches of Lake Superior meet the northern edge of Chippewa County. The settlement of Vermilion is situated just inland from the shoreline, accessed by the narrow track of N Vermillion Rd. This landscape is defined by the thin strip of land between the great lake and a series of smaller inland water bodies, including Browns Lake and Weatherhogs Lake.
