2023 Map of Vermilion

About this map

Vermilion occupies a narrow stretch of the Lake Superior shoreline at the northern edge of the Upper Peninsula, situated precisely where the Luce Co Chippewa Co line meets the coast. This modern survey illustrates the remote maritime character of Vermilion Point, where the land yields to the expansive waters of Lake Superior. The interior terrain just south of the coast is defined by a series of small, isolated water bodies including Browns Lake and Weatherhogs Lake, which are linked by the winding course of Browns Creek. Transportation into this secluded coastal area is limited to local routes such as N Vermilion Rd and W Pond Rd, which provide access through the wetlands and timber of the Hiawatha National Forest region.
