Washington Peak and the high ridges of the White Cloud Peaks dominate this high-elevation landscape within the Challis National Forest and Sawtooth National Forest. The 2013 survey illustrates a wilderness defined by glacial cirques and basins, including Washington Basin and Strawberry Basin, which gather the headwaters for several major drainage systems. Water is a central feature of this terrain, with numerous high-mountain lakes such as Phyllis Lake, Calkins Lake, and the Champion Lakes chain clustered at the base of steep peaks like Lee Peak and Blackmon Peak.
