Challis National Forest and Sawtooth National Forest converge in this high-elevation corner of Custer County, dominated by the White Cloud Peaks and the prominent Washington Peak. The landscape is a network of glacial basins and alpine drainage systems, with the Fourth of July Cr and Champion Cr carving deep paths through the terrain. Evidence of high-country access is visible along the Fourth of July Creek Rd and the Fisher Creek Rd, which provide entry points into the wilderness areas.
