While the eastern edge of the map shows a densely gridded urban center featuring the University of Wisconsin (Extension) and Newman High Sch, the western half remains largely rural with township boundaries like Stettin and Marathon. The confluence of the Rib River and the Wisconsin River creates complex water features such as Lake Wausau, which are bordered by industrial and institutional landmarks including the Municipal Airport and the County Hospital.
