Evidence of water management and livestock presence is noted at Barrel Spring and a nearby Corral, illustrating the dual uses of this arid environment. The road network is dominated by rugged 4wd tracks that wind through the hills to reach isolated claims like the Mine in the southeast corner. This provisional survey by the U.S. Geological Survey captures a period of active or recently active exploration, where the landscape's value was defined by the geologic formations and mineral potential of the Basin and Range province.
