West Creek serves as the central drainage for this section of the Allegheny Plateau, where the creek's narrow valley dictates the path of both the railroad and the primary road. Small settlements like Truman, Howard Siding, and the namesake village of West Creek cling to the corridor established by the water. Away from the main valley, the landscape is defined by a dense network of steep hollows and ridges, such as Whippoorwill Hollow and Bruner Hollow, which have historically constrained development to the upland flats of Moore Hill and Whittimore Hill.
