Whitaker Peak and the surrounding high country of the Angeles National Forest dominate this 1931 topographic study. At this time, the landscape was a mosaic of protected lands, including the eastern reaches of the Santa Barbara National Forest. The map documents early recreational and administrative sites such as the Oak Flat Playground (Los Angeles City) and the Piru Ranger Station near the southern boundary.
