The Unicoi Mountains define the high ridgelines along the Tennessee and North Carolina border in this 2016 survey, where the Cherokee National Forest and Nantahala National Forest converge. The landscape is dominated by the complex drainage basin of Citico Creek, fed by numerous tributaries such as Doublecamp Cr and Little Citico Cr. The settlement of Whiteoak Flats sits near the headwaters of Flats Cr, while other small mountain communities like Glenn Ridge and Good Fields are located along the northern fringes of the mountain range.
