Whitetail Reservoir and its associated Whitetail Dam serve as the central landmarks in this high-plains landscape of Meagher County. The drainage network is clearly defined by Whitetail Deer Creek and its tributary, Dry Fork Whitetail Deer Creek, which flow through the northern reaches toward Decker Gulch. To the south, the terrain is shaped by the winding course of the Smith River, which receives water from Hatch Creek, Rabbit Creek, and Spring Creek.
