Wild Horse Pass serves as a prominent natural crossing in the western portion of this Rosebud County landscape. The area is defined by the ephemeral drainages of Sand Cr and the descriptively named Louie and Scottie Cr, which wind through the township and range divisions of T10N and T9N. These watercourses and topographic breaks, such as Kenney Coulee in the southeast, suggest a terrain traditionally used for ranching and open-range livestock movement. This 2020 edition from the U.S. Geological Survey captures the modern configuration of this Montana backcountry, where few roads penetrate the drainages, preserving a landscape that remains primarily defined by its physical geography and the natural gaps through the hills.
