The Middle Fork John Day River cuts a deep path through this portion of eastern Oregon, where the boundaries of the Umatilla National Forest and Malhuer National Forest meet. The landscape is defined by its dramatic relief, reaching a high point at Wildcat Point and descending into steep drainages such as Paradise Canyon and Bum Canyon. This area shows a complex network of forest development roads, such as Natl Forest Develop Road 35 RD, which provide access to remote springs and gulches.
