The Manistee National Forest covers much of the southeastern terrain in this region of Oceana and Mason Counties, where a network of creeks and drains feeds into the North Branch Pentwater River. The settlement at Wiley serves as a central point along S Scottville Rd, while further south, the small community at Smith Corners is marked by the Smith Corners Cem and the nearby Watson Creek. This area is characterized by its numerous small bodies of water, including the distinct North Oxbow Lake and South Oxbow Lake, which are linked by the Oxbow Lake Drain.
