Oliver Springs serves as a primary hub where three counties—Anderson, Morgan, and Roane—intersect. This complex mountain landscape is defined by the Tennessee Valley Divide, which separates the drainage of the East Fork Poplar Cr and Brushy Fork from the high-elevation ridges to the north. Settlement patterns follow the winding valleys, with communities like Upper Windrock, Khotan, and Frost Bottom situated along the flanks of Windrock Mtn and Buffalo Mtn.

The industrial and transportation legacy of the region is evident in the CSX Transportation lines and the presence of Windrock Fields.
