Witoka and Ridgeway anchor this portion of Winona County, where the high drainage divides of Pleasant Ridge and Homer Ridge dictate the layout of the local road network. The landscape is defined by its deep coulees and valleys, including Pleasant Valley and Campbell Valley, which carve through the plateau toward the Mississippi River basin. This rugged topography has long influenced settlement patterns, concentrating homesteads and infrastructure along the stable ridge tops and within the narrow valley floors.

Local history researchers will find several well-preserved burial sites including Cedar Valley Cem and Saint Patricks Cem, alongside the Hillside Cem and Bush Cem near the eastern margin. Numerous named watercourses, such as Big Trout Cr, Homer Cr, and Corey Cr, illustrate the complex hydrology of the driftless area. The modern road system, including Co Hwy 12 and Co Hwy 17, follows many of the historical routes established by early travelers and farmers.
