Woodstock sits as the central hub of this northern Illinois landscape, where the established grid of the city meets a complex network of country roads. The area's deep-rooted history is visible through a high concentration of burial sites, including Scandinavian Cem and Fairview Cem to the north, and Oakland Cem, Calvary Cem, and Memorial Park Cem surrounding the town center. These sites reflect the community's growth and the various ethnic and religious groups that settled in McHenry County. The terrain is defined by the winding course of the Kishwaukee River, which flows past the newer developments of Lakewood and toward the fringes of Crystal Lake. To the northeast, the residential pockets of Wonder Lake and the open spaces of Bull Valley illustrate the 21st-century transition from traditional agriculture to suburban expansion along corridors like Charles Rd and Alden Rd.
