The Goshen Hole Rim defines the dramatic geological character of this Goshen County landscape, creating a sharp divide between the high plains and the canyon-cut terrain below. To the southwest, the Iowa Center Flats provide a relatively level expanse, while the central and eastern portions of the map are dominated by a complex network of drainages and named breaks. Water sources like Box Elder Cr, Corn Cr, and Josh Cr have carved numerous named features into the rim, including Busty Canyon, Barns Canyon, and the prominent YBO Canyon. A network of rural section roads, such as Road 32 and Road 30, crisscross the townships, providing access to the high ground of YBO Hill and the remote reaches of Sam Moore Canyon and YOS Canyon. This survey illustrates the relationship between the natural escarpment and the grid-based land management of eastern Wyoming.
