YT Ranch and its surrounding cattle country occupy this section of West Texas along the boundary of Andrews and Winkler Counties. The landscape is dominated by extensive Shifting Sand, creating a rolling topography where water is the most critical resource for ranching operations. This is evidenced by a dense network of named windmills across the range, including the Old Headquarters Windmill, East Witcher Windmill, and Bruce and Bar Windmill.

Industry began to overlay the traditional ranching lands by the early 1970s, as shown by the Oil Field developments and a network of pipelines that cut across the dunes. Numerous Jeep Trails provide the only access through this arid environment, connecting isolated points like Plum Thicket Windmill and the Flag Windmill. The presence of a Gravel Pit and scattered Drill Holes further illustrates the intersection of mineral extraction and large-scale land holdings in this remote corner of the Permian Basin.
