About this map

Hubbard Glacier dominates the northern reaches of this coastal Alaskan landscape, where the massive ice flow meets the waters of Russell Fiord. The region is defined by the high peaks of the Saint Elias Mountains, including Mount Tebenkof, Mount Mallott, and Mount Ruhamah, which overlook a network of glacial lakes and coastal rivers. Within the Tongass National Forest and the Russell Fiord Wilderness, human presence is sparse, marked primarily by the Situk Lake Cabin (FS) and a Communication Site. The southern portion of the map transitions into the Yakutat Foreland Area, a flatter coastal plain where the Situk River and Dangerous River snake toward the Gulf of Alaska. Evidence of past activity includes a Landing Strip (Aband) and a Fish Pond (FS) located near the Old River.
