Young and the neighboring Pleasant Valley anchor this mountainous portion of the Tonto National Forest in central Arizona. The landscape is defined by a dense network of water features and high-elevation terrain, from the prominent Squaw Peak and Crouch Mesa to the complex drainage of Cherry Creek and its many tributaries. The area's ranching and aviation history is evidenced by the Chapman Ranch Airstrip and numerous family-named landmarks such as Zacharie Ranch Road and Peters Corral Canyon.
