Zapata and its surrounding colonias anchor the eastern shoreline of the Falcon Reservoir, where the international boundary between the United States and Mexico follows the submerged channel of the Rio Grande. The landscape is defined by the expansive waters of the reservoir, punctuated by a series of navigational markers from Buoy Number 3 to Buoy Number 17. In contrast to the modern developments like Falcon Shores and Guzman Colonia, older roots are visible at Old Uribazo and the Urebeno Cemetery.
