Zion sits at the center of this rural Adair County landscape, where the agricultural grid of Southwest Iowa is defined by a dense network of numbered streets and named avenues. The terrain is deeply etched by a series of south-flowing waterways, most notably the Thompson River in the northeast and a sequence of creeks including Threemile Cr, Twelvemile Cr, and Ninemile Cr. These drainage patterns dictated the placement of early farmsteads and the winding secondary roads that deviate from the rigid section lines. To the west, the settlement of Spaulding anchors the corner of the map near Co Hwy P33. The map also preserves the name of a local figure through Henry A Wallace Dr, reflecting the region's deep connection to 20th-century American agricultural history and leadership.
