Kobuk Valley National Park dominates the central landscape of this wilderness area in northwest Alaska. The terrain is defined by the high-altitude headwaters and drainage systems of the Akillik River in the north and the winding course of Nuna Cr as it carves through the southern elevations. This 2015 study illustrates the complex topographic relief of the region, where steep contour intervals map the transition from river valleys to high ridges. The absence of roads or permanent structures reflects the remote character of these protected lands within the Ambler River B-5 SE quadrangle, providing a detailed record of the natural hydrology and land divisions that govern this section of the Arctic.
