Tahneta Pass and the surrounding high-altitude terrain of the Horn Mountains define this section of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The landscape is characterized by a network of drainage systems including Crooked Cr, Bonanza Cr, and Eureka Cr, which flow through steep gulches like Dave Gulch and Sailor Gulch. The Glenn Hwy serves as the primary artery through the region, skirting the edges of Tahneta Lake and the Startup Lakes.
