Aniwa and Elmhurst are the primary settlements in this region of northern Wisconsin, where the landscape transitions between the water-rich lowlands and the southern outskirts of Antigo. The area is defined by a dense network of waterways, including the Eau Claire River and the Plover River winding through the western half, while the Middle Br Embarrass River and Elmhurst Cr drain the eastern sectors. Small, localized bodies of water like Bear Lake, Spring Lake, and Pleasant Lake are prominent landmarks near the village centers.
