Whitman National Forest contains a complex network of glacial basins and high-elevation waters along the crest of the Elkhorn Mountains. This 2014 survey documents the hydrography of the region, where the Anthony Lakes recreation area serves as a focal point near the Union and Baker County line. The landscape is defined by its numerous small alpine water bodies, including Lilypad Lake, Grande Ronde Lake, and Van Patten Lake, which are linked by drainages such as Antone Creek and the North Powder River.
