Apache Mesa dominates this Rio Arriba County landscape, rising between the canyon-cut plateaus of northern New Mexico. The 2013 survey illustrates a high-desert environment defined by dramatic elevation changes and intermittent water sources, such as Boulder Cr and Horse Lake Cr. To the west, a series of contained water bodies including Stone Lake, Striking Lake, and Hayden Lake suggest a localized drainage pattern distinct from the larger El Vado Reservoir visible on the eastern edge. Settlement is sparse in this terrain, centered primarily on the southern reaches near NM-95, where the localities of La Puerta Grande and Pound Ranch are situated. The map provides a clear look at the modern road network, including Stone Lake Rd and Christy Ln, which navigate the complex topography of Pump House Canyon.
