Apache Summit occupies a high-elevation divide in Otero County, where a complex network of canyons drains the surrounding highlands. The landscape is defined by its water infrastructure, with numerous livestock tanks such as Pete Gaines Tank, Chattol Tank, and Rock Tank scattered across the drainage basins of North Fork Tularosa Canyon and Elk Canyon. These artificial water sources and a lone Windmill suggest a ranching economy adapted to the high-desert terrain.
