The Kawich Range dominates this high-desert landscape in the late 1980s, serving as a natural boundary between the Gold Flat Depression to the west and the Kawich Valley Depression to the east. This area is defined by its restricted status and specialized land use, primarily occupied by the Nellis Air Force Range and the Nevada Wild Horse Management Area. The presence of several Targets and a single Target in the northern reaches of the depressions highlights the military training activity that characterizes this era of Nevada history. Scattered evidence of earlier resource extraction persists in the form of an Adit and multiple Prospects near the high ground of Saucer Mesa. Seasonal drainage patterns are marked by features like South Fork Apache Tear Canyon and Grass Spring Canyon, which cut through the arid terrain.
