Ashley Mtn and the Ashley Divide form the central topographic spine of this region within the Flathead National Forest. This interior portion of the Salish Mountains is defined by a dense network of forestry access routes, including Griffin Creek Rd and Star Meadow Rd, which trace the drainage patterns of the high country. In the north, Star Meadow provides a distinct break in the timbered slopes, where Sheppard Cr and Griffin Cr emerge from the surrounding peaks.
