Augusta serves as the central hub of this Western Illinois landscape, where the borders of Hancock, Adams, and Schuyler counties converge. The town's grid is surrounded by a dense network of family and community burial grounds, including the Old Augusta Cem, Woodland City Cem, and Pulaski Cem. These landmarks, along with the Walker Cem and Leenerts Cem further south, provide a valuable record of the area's ancestral settlement patterns. The terrain is defined by the winding paths of Williams Creek and Cedar Cr, which cut through the agricultural sections. To the southwest, the smaller settlement of La Prairie sits at the edge of the survey, connected by a system of rural roads like Nubbin Ridge Rd and Pulaski Cemetery Rd that follow the natural rises and falls of the prairie and creek valleys.
