Banner Summit serves as the high-elevation focal point for this 2011 survey, marking a critical divide in the central Idaho highlands. The landscape is defined by its complex hydrography, with numerous alpine water bodies such as Elizabeth Lake, Marten Lake, and Kelly Lake scattered throughout the higher basins. Transport and recreational infrastructure are concentrated along the north-south corridor, where the Banner Creek Rest Area, Granite Rest Area, and Bench Creek Rest Area support travelers moving through the mountain pass. Near the northern boundary, the Thatcher Creek Campground and the Thatcher Creek Overlook provide specific access points for mountain exploration near Cape Horn. The drainage patterns are clearly delineated, showing the headwaters of Canyon Creek flowing south from the summit, while Swamp Creek and Thatcher Creek collect runoff from the slopes of Copper Mountain to the north.
