Lake Superior dominates the northern half of this Houghton County landscape, where the Keweenaw Peninsula's shoreline meets the cold waters of the great lake. Along the rugged coastal bluffs, the settlements of Freda, Beacon Hill, and Redridge represent the legacy of the Copper Country's industrial era, situated where the terrain drops toward the water. The Salmon Trout River winds through the eastern portion of the survey, cutting through the elevation to reach its mouth near the coast.
