About this map

The Mississippi River creates a complex landscape of shifting borders and braided waterways along the boundary between Louisiana and Mississippi. The terrain is dominated by the large expanse of Davis Island, which is encircled by Palmyra Chute and the broad curve of Davis Island Bend. This river-driven geography has left behind numerous oxbows and sloughs, including Palmyra Lake, Long Lake, and Sandbar Lake, which reflect the historical movement of the main channel.
