The South Fork Shoshone River flows through the northwest corner of this terrain, where early ranching and irrigation infrastructure is evident in the Neff Ditch and Lakeview Ditch. Much of the landscape is dominated by the high elevations of the Shoshone National Forest, rising sharply toward the massive plateau of Carter Mountain in the southeast. This rugged wilderness is marked by the drainages of Belknap Creek, Bull Creek, and Willow Creek.
