The High Plains borderland of eastern Colorado is defined here by the crossing of the Kit Carson and Cheyenne County line. This sparsely populated agricultural landscape is dissected by several ephemeral watercourses, most notably the namesake Bellyache Cr in the southern portion of the quadrangle. A strictly organized grid of section lines and gravel routes, including Co Rd F and Co Rd B, facilitates movement across the open range. The drainage patterns of Sand Cr and the E Br Spring Cr illustrate the subtle topography of the region, where seasonal water flow has carved shallow draws into the prairie. This map serves as a detailed record of the township and range system at the end of the second decade of the 21st century, showing the enduring structure of rural land management in this part of the state.
