Piato Vaya and the surrounding desert landscape of the Pisinemo District are defined by sharp topographic shifts from the Quijotoa Valley floor to the high ridges of the Quijotoa Mountains. The settlement itself is situated near Piato Vaya Pass, a natural corridor between the peaks of Black Butte and the towering Ben Nevis Mtn.
