The Thompson River flows through the southern portion of this region, providing the primary drainage for a landscape defined by the convergence of the Kootenai National Forest and Lolo National Forest. This 2014 survey documents the isolated settlement at Bend, where Bend Rd meets the river. The terrain is deeply incised by watercourses such as Boiling Springs Cr, Indian Cr, and Lazier Cr, which feed into the main river valley. High points like Skookum Point overlook the drainage basins of Twin Lakes and Tornilla Cr. The map shows a clear infrastructure of forest and resource management roads, including the Thompson River Rd and the Acm Rd, which parallel the water and provide access to the small mountain outpost at Whitney Springs.
