Benjamin Lake and the surrounding highlands of the Spokane Indian Reservation dominate this landscape along the border of Stevens and Lincoln counties. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation shifts, ranging from the heights of Cayuse Mtn and Bald Ridge down to the Spokane River Arm of the Columbia River system. This 2013 survey illustrates a region largely preserved for recreation and tribal use, with the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area wrapping around the water's edge. A network of Bureau of Indian Affairs routes, including BIA Highway 40 and BIA Highway 31, provide access through the complex topography of Harker Canyon. The presence of Sherwood Mine Rd near the northern boundary points to the area's industrial history, while smaller bodies of water like Carp Lake dot the western plateaus.
