Benzien sits at a crossroads of the Montana plains, defined by a complex network of seasonal drainage channels and long-established ranching routes. The landscape is dominated by deeply etched coulees, including the ominously named Dead Horse Coulee and Battle Coulee, which draw water toward the Lodgepole Cr system. To the north, the elevation rises toward Blue Ridge, a prominent landform overlooking the rugged breaks formed by Seventynine Coulee and Curry Coulee. This 2017 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey captures the modern layout of rural infrastructure, showing how Benzien Rd and N Lodge Pole Rd navigate the undulating terrain to connect this remote Garfield County settlement with the surrounding prairie.
