Palo Duro Canyon and its complex network of side canyons dominate this portion of the Texas Panhandle along the border of Armstrong and Briscoe counties. The dramatic descent from the high plains is marked by the Prairie Dog Town Fork Red River, which cuts through the eastern edge of the survey. The landscape is defined by deep erosion, featuring names that recall local ranching and geographical history, such as Goodnight Canyon, McMurtry Canyon, and Lufberg Canyon.
