The Gulf of Mexico dominates the southern portion of this coastal survey, where the saltwater of the gulf meets the intricate marshland and bayou systems of Cameron Parish. The coastline is defined by the outflow of several winding water bodies, most notably the network surrounding Big Constance Lake and its smaller counterpart, Little Constance Lake. These brackish basins are connected to the open sea via narrow passages such as Little Constance Bayou and Constance Bayou.
